Purchasing breed stock from Linger Fold
Whether growing your established flock or becoming a first-time shepherd, each new flock member is a significant step. We hope you can visit our mountain valley preserve personally to see our flock as a whole and choose your animals from first-hand observation. Our farm is remote but it makes for a wonderful journey. We also can and do arrange sales from a distance and will work with you carefully at every step, helping you find what you are looking for. We can also often help with arranging or participating in delivery to your farm.
We belong to Icelandic Sheep Breeders of North America (ISBONA) and our stock are registered with ISBONA through Canadian Livestock Records Corporation (CLRC). Purchase price includes each animal’s registration.
OUR FOCUS:
We have created our Icelandic flock with the goal of producing hardy, triple purpose sheep. We offer our best to other shepherds for breed stock destined for meat, fiber and milk production. We are continually tapping into the AI lines available in the US from Iceland, appreciating the vision of the Icelanders and using their well-assessed breeding program.
In order to raise rigorous lambs with good weight gains over our short mountain summer season, the overall health, mothering skills and milkiness of our ewes is essential for our breed stock.
We have a passion for sound conformation (including grace of movement) and a beautiful spinner's fleece! The whole package is considered, including temperament. We analyze each of our lambs before we offer any of them for sale as breed stock to your farm.
What to expect when you buy sheep from our flock:
Appropriate papers for transport if crossing state lines, including a health check with our veterinarian within the 30 days prior to pick up or delivery of your sheep.
Registration papers with ISBONA.
We are often able to assist with the delivery of your sheep at a reasonable cost.
Ongoing support as you enroll in your venture with Icelandics. We will continue to share with you all that we have learned about this primitive and unusual breed. Your success is our success!
